ingredients

  • 1 refrigerated pizza crust (pillsbury)
  • 1 lb ground Italian sausage
  • 3/4 cup tomato sauce
  • 3/4 tsp dried basil
  • 1/8 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese (shredded)
  • 1 egg
  • salt & pepper
  • 2 tsp olive oil

instructions

  1. Pre-heat the oven to 400-degrees. On a non-stick baking sheet, unroll, spread and flatten the pizza crust.

  2. In a medium sauce pan, warm up the olive oil on medium high heat. Then add the sausage a 1/4 tsp of basil, the garlic powder and a little salt and pepper. Once the meat has browned, drain off the excess oil and stir in 1/3 cup of the tomato sauce.

  3. Spread 1/2 cup of the tomato sauce on the pizza dough, leaving an inch and 1/2 of dough on each side. Then sprinkle the 1/2 tsp of basil on the sauce. Next add the sausage onto the sauce and then top it off with the mozzarella cheese.

  4. Roll the ends over the pizza filling and press the seam lightly to seal. Then with a sharp knife add a few cuts to the top of the stromboli. Scramble the egg and brush the egg over the top of the stromboli, then add a little sprinkle of basil and more garlic powder.

  5. Bake the Pizza Stromboli in the oven between 15 - 20 minutes, until the crust becomes a golden brown. Remove from the heat and let cool for 5 minutes before cutting and serving.
