Chocolate Chip Banana Bread
Mmmmm, chocolate chip banana bread. When the weather starts to hint of fall, it’s time to pull out the quick-bread pan and get to baking.
Everyone has a banana bread recipe, but why not kick things up a notch and add in some chocolate chips? Now it’s not just banana bread, it’s chocolate chip banana bread – it’s now extra special.
To balance out the bad parts and make it a little bit healthier, I’ve swapped out the normal oil for applesauce. Two fruits must be better than one and I’ve found that the bread is still a hit with the kiddos.
Let’s be honest, if anyone is going to reject some healthy banana bread it’s kids. So if it passes their taste test, I must be doing something right.
What better way to use up some sketchy bananas, than to transform them into a warm gooey loaf of banana bread. Add in some chocolate chips – well, because why wouldn’t you?
- 1-1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1-1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp baking soda
- 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1 egg
- 1 cup mashed bananas (3 medium)
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup unsweetened applesauce
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 1/2 cup semi-sweetened chocolate chips
-
Grease the bottom and sides of a loaf pan, then in a medium-sized mixing bowl add in the flour, baking powder, baking soda and ground cinnamon.
-
In a smaller bowl, mash the bananas and then add in the egg, vanilla, sugar and applesauce. Stir well to combine all the wet ingredients.
-
Add the egg and banana mixture into the dry mixture and stir until moistened. The batter should look a little lumpy, but you shouldn’t see any white flour. Then add in the chocolate chips.
-
Add the batter to the pre-greased loaf pan and Bake in a 350 oven for about 50 minutes. A toothpick inserted into the center should come out fairly clean. When ready, cool the bread in the pan for about 10 minutes before slicing.
